Eight-year-old Amputee to Receive Prosthetic Arm in Sydney with Assistance from Aspen Medical Foundation

undergo a prosthetic fitting in Sydney this week thanks to financial assistance
from Aspen Medical’s registered charity, Aspen Medical Foundation.

Eight-year-old Elenoa Gukiwasa will be accompanied by her grandmother,
Makelesi, and Aspen Medical clinicians Dr Manoa Valeniyasana, Setaita Bulai
and Linda Jorgensen.

Following the road traffic accident near Lautoka Hospital on 21 June 2023,
Aspen Medical in Fiji approached the Aspen Medical Foundation to support
Elenoa on her path to recovery. The Foundation agreed to fund the required
prosthetic limb and all travel and accommodation. Elenoa’s prosthetic limb
will be fitted by APC Prosthetics in Sydney.

Aspen Medical’s CEO in Fiji, Gavin Whiteside, said, “Elenoa’s trip to Sydney
marks a significant step forward in her rehabilitation process. This journey
underscores the community’s collective effort and unwavering support,
enabling Elenoa to access the care she needs for a brighter future.

“Elenoa is a very brave young girl bur she has a long journey ahead of her,
and we are happy that we can play a part in improving her life.”

The fitment of the prosthetic limb and initial physiotherapy will start on
Monday 19 February and will take several days.
