Description

Aspen Medical is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Pastry Cook. The role will prepare and deliver a consistent range of nutritious, appealing, and diet-appropriate baked goods for patients, staff, and visitors in accordance with food safety, hygiene, and hospital nutrition standards.

The roles and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Produce a variety of pastries, breads, cakes, and desserts according to menu plans and dietary guidelines.
  • Modify recipes to align with patient diets (e.g. diabetic, low-fat, low-sugar, gluten-free).
  • Follow HACCP protocols and hospital infection control guidelines for food handling.
  • Ensure baked items are ready for scheduled meal services (breakfast, lunch, tea, etc).
  • Assist in stock rotation, manage pastry inventory, and reduce waste.
  • Work closely with dietitians, chefs, and kitchen aides to meet patient needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of pastry tools and preparation areas.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace and comply with instructions given in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure own safety and health and that of others and to abide by our duty of care provided for in the OHS policy.
  • Any other reasonable duties delegated by management.

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Certificate III or higher in Commercial Cookery, Baking, or Patisserie.
  • Experience in commercial kitchen or institutional food service setting as a pastry cook.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Helpful, courteous approach and engaging personality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Service oriented approach with a commitment to supporting the operation and corporate environment of the organisation.
