Description
Aspen Medical is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Patient Transporter. The role will safely and efficiently transport patients, specimens, medical equipment, and other materials throughout the hospital, ensuring patient comfort, dignity, and safety at all times. The role supports clinical operations by facilitating timely patient movement between departments.
The roles and responsibilities of this position include:
- Safely transport patients to and from wards, diagnostic departments, theatres, outpatient clinics, and emergency departments using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds.
- Assist patients with limited mobility, including lifting and transferring under safe manual handling practices.
- Ensure patient dignity, comfort, and privacy during transport.
- Deliver and retrieve medical records, lab specimens, medical supplies, and equipment between departments.
- Ensure prompt response to transport requests through the allocated scheduling or dispatch system.
- Adhere to hospital infection prevention and control protocols, including equipment sanitisation between transports.
- Follow all safety procedures, including correct use of PPE and safe manual handling techniques.
- Maintain clear and respectful communication with clinical staff, patients, and visitors.
- Record patient movement as required by the transport log system or electronic patient movement system.
- Report incidents, delays, or patient concerns to the relevant supervisor or ward staff.
- Work collaboratively with nursing, medical, and support services staff to coordinate timely patient movement.
- Respond flexibly to changing demands during peak periods, emergencies, or shift changes.
- Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace and comply with instructions given in adhering to safe work procedures.
- Take reasonable care to ensure own safety and health and that of others and to abide by our duty of care provided for in the OHS policy.
- Any other reasonable duties delegated by management.
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Completion of secondary education (Year 12 or equivalent)
- Certificate in Individual Support, HealthCare Assistant, or related field preferred.
- Training in manual handling and patient safety.
- Understanding of proper body mechanics, safe lifting, and patient transfer techniques.
- Demonstrated capacity to respond quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interact professionally with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions, complete records, and report incidents accurately.
- Can follow directions with minimal supervision while contributing positively to team objectives.
