Description

Aspen Medical is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Phlebotomist. The Phlebotomist provides support for collection, handling, and distribution of Laboratory samples to respective sections in the Pathology department and contributes to delivery of accurate, reliable results within turnaround time. 

The roles and responsibilities of this position include:

    • Ensure patient/ blood donor comfort and confidentiality and good customer service practice while adhering to Standard Operating Procedures, Laboratory policies and values of Aspen Medical 
    • Ensure work area is always clean and disinfected daily, specimen handling is as per laboratory sections and disseminate updated information to patients/ customers. 
    • Contribute to proper management of resources with minimum wastage, contribute to various educational opportunities that may arise and ensure completion of assigned specific duties in other sections is achieved. 
    • Contribute to training, supervision and assessment of new recruits and students.  
    • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace and comply with instructions given in adhering to safe work procedures. 
    • Take reasonable care to ensure own safety and health and that of others and to abide by our duty of care provided for in the OHS policy.  
    • Any other reasonable duties delegated by management.  

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Certificate in Phlebotomist 
  • Sound understanding of phlebotomy practices, processes and procedures 
  • Knowledge in the general safety within the laboratory, effective personal protective equipment use, complies to and advocates laboratory policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) 
  • Good understanding of Laboratory Quality Management Systems and its importance in sample reception area, phlebotomy both on donors and patients  
  • Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail and accuracy of patient information 
  • Demonstrated ability to work and contribute within a high performing team environment 
  • Good communication skills with the ability to write concise accurate reports 
  • Ability to manage work competing work priorities to meet scheduled timeframes 
  • Capacity to utilize computer programs and ability to demonstrate patient information for registration 
  • Service oriented approach, with a commitment to supporting the operational and corporate environment of the organization 

 

Desired 

  • Knowledge of the Health Service Industry 
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information System
