Description

Aspen Medical is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Fitter. The Fitter is responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of technical drawings, mechanical systems, and precision tools. The Fitter ensures that all work is performed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.

The roles and responsibilities of this position include:

  • To assist in the repairing and maintenance of boilers, washing machines, dryers and roller ironer, steam liner, suction pumps, wheelchairs, autoclaves and sterilizers, hospital beds and general welding works
  • Ensure that boilers, back-up generators and fuel supply are in working order and sufficient supply respectively
  • Experienced in equipment fault diagnosis, problem solving and maintaining a high standard
  • Create and enter properly documented records of inspections, maintenance routines and repairs
  • Immediately report problems / failures that may impact on the organization and / or its customers or which you think may affect health and safety to Line Manager
  • Meet your targets and contribute to those of the team as a whole
  • Adhere to all organization policies and procedures, including those relating to hygiene, respect for other team members, time keeping and flexibility
  • Maintain systems by scheduling regular inspections, cleanings, filter replacement and all other tasks necessary to keep all components performing optimally; identify and repair or replace malfunctioning components
  • Ensure safety by monitoring safety equipment, identifying potential issues and taking appropriate steps to suspend operations and repair the problem
  • Perform necessary repairs and replacements, obtain replacement parts and upgrade components as needed while staying within the budget
  • Select and apply appropriate welding techniques (MIG, TIG, stick welding) based on project requirements
  • Supervise team of assistant operators and mechanics by delegating repair, maintenance and monitoring tasks, scheduling jobs, providing appropriate instruction and giving constructive feedback on performance
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace and comply with instructions given in adhering to safe work procedures
  • Take reasonable care to ensure own safety and health and that of others and to abide by our duty of care provided for in the OHS policy
  • Any other reasonable duties delegated by management

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Trade certificate in heavy plant and machinery maintenance (or equivalent),
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and operational of boilers, steam vessels and pressure operating vessels or similar working environment and heavy plant, the completion of appropriate apprenticeship training is desirable
  • Well versed and knowledgeable in maintenance and repairs of boilers, washing machines, dryers and roller ironers, steam line, suction pumps, incinerators, autoclaves, diesel generators / engines, sterilizers, wheelchairs and beds and general welding works
  • Experience in mechanical plant operations
  • To understand and deliver good customer service
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Requirements
  • Ability to detect, analyze and solve mechanical and electrical faults and breakdown
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision
  • Service oriented approach, with a commitment to supporting the operational / corporate environment of the organization
