Description
Aspen Medical is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Registered Pharmacist. The role is accountable for the delivery of high quality, progressive pharmacy services, ensuring safe and quality use of medicines and the provision of medicine advice to produce optimum patient outcomes. This role includes supervision, mentoring, and training of Pharmacists, ensuring compliance with clinical and regulatory standards, and supporting strategic pharmacy initiatives. The Registered Pharmacist exercises independent clinical judgment an plays a key role in medication safety, audit processes, and continuous quality improvement, in line with health regulations and organizational standards.
The roles and responsibilities of this position include:
- Financial Management
- Oversees and enforces prudent inventory management practices, ensuring processes in place are abided by – to minimize breakages, incidental losses, and unnecessary expenditures across pharmacy operations.
- Actively leads the monitoring of medication expiry dates and stock levels, ensuring adherence to the FEFO (First-Expire, First-Out) method to minimize wastage and inventory obsolescence.
- Ensures all pharmaceuticals are stored under optimal conditions to preserve stability, quality, and to avoid wastage, theft, or deterioration.
- Internal Operations
- Reviews prescriptions and medication orders for accuracy, completeness, and clinical appropriateness to ensure safe and efficient processing.
- Assigned to unit-based practice, which involves delivering direct, patient-centered pharmaceutical care in clinical units.
- Carries out transcribing, dispensing, compounding, and provides accurate, timely medication-related information to inpatients, outpatients, and external clients for both prescription and over-the-counter medicines.
- Conducts thorough Medication Appropriateness Checks for all new prescriptions during pharmacy operating hours.
- Collaborates closely with physicians and nursing staff to clarify or verify medication orders and prevent potential medication errors.
- Observes national regulations on handling dangerous drug requirements on distribution, record keeping, inventory, storage, and security, to comply with the law.
- Participates in stock counts, ordering, rotation, replenishment, and internal distribution.
- Data and Records Management
- Ensures that controlled substances are accurately accounted for according to relevant laws and regulations.
- Document near misses and report medication errors through the appropriate platforms to promote medication safety
- Contribute to data collection, analysis, and submission of assigned reports related to medication management and use processes.
- Other Responsibilities
- Provide professional leadership, mentoring, and training to all staff, intern pharmacists and students and be responsible for their development and support.
- Participate in hospital JCI programs and quality certification initiatives
- Actively contribute to all corporate requirements including planning, budgeting, and Human Resource activities when required.
- Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace and comply with instructions given in adhering to safe work procedures.
- Take reasonable care to ensure own safety and health and that of others and to abide by our duty of care provided for in the OHS policy. Actively contribute to all corporate requirements, including planning, budgeting, Human Resource activities when required
- Any other reasonable duties delegated by management.
- Completes competency requirements and support staff development activities of the clinical pharmacists that include practical and theoretical knowledge along with didactic direct experience.
- Completes required CPD hours annually; attends ≥4 internal training sessions per year.
Experience and Qualifications Required
- A Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and equivalent relevant experience.
- Current registration with the Fiji Pharmacy Profession Board
- Sound knowledge and application of all relevant pharmaceutical laws and policies
- Understanding and application of inventory management

- Highly developed organisational skills and the ability to communicate with people at different levels and from different backgrounds
- Capacity to use computers to support the daily operations
- Ability to effectively monitor staff performance and conduct reviews
- Service oriented approach, with a commitment to supporting the operational/corporate environment of the organization
- Preferably with Basic Aseptic Technique Training but may undergo training in the department once hired.
